I sometimes write lyrics for songs I wish I could make

Now and then I want to write songs. Unfortunately I am largely unlearned when it comes to playing music, though want to change that; I still write a lot of music.

Charles Wesley wrote a hymn titled For a Thousand Tongues, and that was the basis for this particular song. I wanted something deeply reverent, tied to historic Christian hymnody, but also “modern”

I am always very nervous about sharing material I write that is often deeply personal. But if the words here are edifying to those who read, then give thanks to our God who is amazing and wonderful.

VERSE 1
O! For ten thousand hymns to raise
They still would fall too small
To tell the wonders of Thy grace
Or speak Thy name at all

CHORUS
So sing, my soul, forever sing
Lift high the praises of thy King
Proclaim the glory of His name
Sing ever of thy God and King
Till heaven and earth are made anew

VERSE 2
You found me in my wandering
When despair was all I knew
You turned my mourning into hope
And drew my soul to You

CHORUS
So sing, my soul, forever sing
Lift high the praises of thy King
Proclaim the glory of His name
Sing ever of thy God and King
Till heaven and earth are made anew

VERSE 3
Let every breath and every beat
Of this weary heart become
A melody of sweet release
O Christ who paid my ransom

CHORUS
So sing, my soul, forever sing
Lift high the praises of thy King
Proclaim the glory of His name
Sing ever of thy God and King
Till heaven and earth are made anew

VERSE 4
No choir strong enough to rise
No anthem loud enough
Could match the mercy of Thy hands
Or Thine redeeming love

FINAL CHORUS
Then sing, my soul, forever sing
Lift high the praises of thy King
Let every nation join the song
To Christ, to whom all praise belongs
Till heaven and earth are made anew
And all creation sings of You
