5 Creative Trunk-or-Treat Themes for Churches
I just love October. It’s finally sweater weather where I live and perfect for a cozy cup of coffee or tea. I love seeing God’s handiwork in the changing seasons. I love the harvest season and enjoy celebrating Halloween with my kids, but am especially looking for more ideas for trunk-or-treat!
My sister-in-law put together the cutest winter/snow theme trunk-or-treat which inspired me. This article also has some interesting (and biblical!) ideas. I’d love to get more inspiration. What themes have you done in the past? What are some fun, creative, and even biblical trunk-or-treat ideas?!

A few quick themes we’ve loved (simple + budget-friendly):
-
“Let There Be Light” Lanterns: string battery tea lights, hand out glow sticks, and have a photo spot with “You are the light of the world.” Kids love leaving with something that glows.
-
“Jonah & the Big Fish”: blue tarp “waves,” a cardboard whale mouth as the trunk, and a bubble machine for “sea spray.” We gave out fish crackers and a verse card.
-
“Parables Snack Shack”: three mini stations: Lost Sheep (cotton-ball craft), Mustard Seed (tiny seed packet sticker), Good Samaritan (Band-Aid + heart sticker). Quick, no mess.
Pro tip: preload candy in small paper bags that match your theme. Keeps the line moving and looks cute in photos.

Last year, we did a simple “Armor of God” setup: cardboard shields, a few Roman helmets, and handouts with Ephesians 6:10-18. The kids could “suit up” with stickers and verse cards, and it opened up a lot of good questions. I’m praying this year’s events not only bring joy but plant seeds of truth in young hearts.

You could do…umm I forgot what it was called but you could set up the back of your trunk like the little house that Jesus was born in. Have like cardboard cut outs of Mary and Joseph and where baby Jesus was you could have candy there or just have a bucket right in front of it.
