My lusting has gone too far Jesus helps massively to calm it but I’m worried about my future and the damage I have caused people. Any UK people here to help me? I’m a new Christian
Greetings. I’m not from the UK. I’m from the USA. But my dad just preached on this topic. He’s going through a series about Joseph in Genesis. He was sold into slavery by his brothers and went through many ups and downs throughout his journey in becoming the second in command of Egypt. Since Egypt was the most powerful nation then, he was essentially the second in command of the whole world.
Sexual temptation played a big part of Joseph’s journey. He was a young, naive older teenager to early twenties during this time. He could have easily given in to his temptations, but amazingly, Scripture tells us in Genesis 39:8-9, “But he refused and said to his master’s wife, ‘Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand. There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?’”
Here are the notes I took from his sermon:
Sermon: Faithful In Temptation (#4 of 8)
Flee fornication!
Flee sexual immorality!
Solomon. Sampson, and King David (among others) fell victim to sexual immorality.
If you are not alert, the same will happen to you!
I Corinthians 10:12
Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
I Corinthians 6:18-20
Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Sexual immorality is a serious offense before God!
Joseph, somewhere between 17-21, was faced with this temptation. May we stand pure as he did!
Genesis 39:2-3
The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand.
What a great life Joseph had going!
Until…
Genesis 39:6b-7
Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.”
A naïve purity about Joseph about to be tested and tested hard!
How hard to resist when they were alone!
Genesis 39:8
But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand.
“But he refused!”
Are we building each other up in the church?
Joseph didn’t have this encouragement from fellow God-fearers.
Genesis 39:9a
There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife.
Are we smart enough to think of others who would suffer if we gave into temptation?
Do we really want to risk the souls of others?
Joseph didn’t want to be disloyal to God, either.
Genesis 39:9b-10
“How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” So it was, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not heed her, to lie with her or to be with her.
Never get over the shock of how horrible sin is!
Joseph was not willing to hurt God.
Satan makes sin look dignified, convincing us of his lies of how beneficial sin is.
Spouses who are caught in a sexual sin tend to say things like: “Honey, it didn’t mean a thing!”
How ridiculous! It means something to those who depend on you for being a Godly example.
It means everything to God!
“Few people leave the straight and narrow path suddenly”
Numbers 32:23
But if you do not do so, then take note, you have sinned against the Lord; and be sure your sin will find you out.
Flee fornication!
Satan loves to bring down Christians. When Christians fall, this prevents others from becoming Christians!
“If you don’t intend to go into the house, stay off the front porch!”
I Thessalonians 5:22
Abstain from every form of evil.
Flee! Run for your spiritual life!
Sticking around to reason through temptation will only result in giving in to it!
Mrs. Potiphar retaliated by falsely accusing Joseph of raping her.
Genesis 39:11-20
But it happened about this time, when Joseph went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the house was inside, that she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside. And so it was, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and fled outside, that she called to the men of her house and spoke to them, saying, “See, he has brought in to us a Hebrew to mock us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice. And it happened, when he heard that I lifted my voice and cried out, that he left his garment with me, and fled and went outside.” So she kept his garment with her until his master came home. Then she spoke to him with words like these, saying, “The Hebrew servant whom you brought to us came in to me to mock me; so it happened, as I lifted my voice and cried out, that he left his garment with me and fled outside.” So it was, when his master heard the words which his wife spoke to him, saying, “Your servant did to me after this manner,” that his anger was aroused. Then Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison.
Potiphar could have had Joseph killed. But he threw him in jail instead. Did Potiphar not believe his wife?
Genesis 39:21-23
But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison; whatever they did there, it was his doing. The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph’s authority, because the Lord was with him; and whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper.
Joesph was now in charge of the prison!
This proved to be a very discouraging time (we will talk about this in two weeks).
God’s standards are absolute and never change!
It doesn’t matter that you are “in love”! Fornication is fornication!
Who rules your life?
Matthew 6:24
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
Are you trying to serve two masters?
If you are serving God alone, why are you still struggling with pornography?
Tobacco products?
Alcohol?
Gambling?
Etc, etc.
Anything that enslaves you has become your master. Unless you get rid of that, Jesus cannot be your master!
Matthew 24:35
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
Society’s standards change. But God’s does not.
Christianity is worshipping the person of Jesus Christ. He was outspoken when it came to sin.
You cannot love God without hating what He hates!
- Temptation is normal, even for children of God.
Virtue causes us to resist the temptations
Hebrews 4:15
For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Jesus was not exempt from temptation. He needed His Father’s help just as we do!
Jesus’ biggest temptation must have been while on the cross to come off and prove He was the Son of God.
Matthew 27:40b
If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.
The nails did not hold Him on the cross. His love did!
We can’t keep bad thoughts from entering our mind. But we don’t have to let them stay there!
Resist your temptations!
- Victory over temptation is possible through escape. Escape is possible through trust in God.
Are you willing to give up your job to keep from sinning? Your house? Your…?
- Rewards for purity are eternal but they are not always immediate.
James 1:12
Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
Evil will not get away with It forever!
Sins leave an ugly scar, but our faithfulness to Christ will result in our salvation.
Galatians 6:7-9
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Don’t give up! Don’t give in!
Temptations come. But through the power of the word of God, they will go, but only if you flee! And keep fleeing!
These are some good notes!
