Thunder rumbles, lights flicker, and the sky cracks open—storms have a way of grabbing our attention. But what about the storms we don’t see on the weather report? The ones inside our hearts, homes, and relationships? When chaos breaks loose in our lives, it’s natural to ask: is God really in control of this?

Psalm 77:17–18 uses the storm as a metaphor for God’s power—lightning as His arrows, thunder as His voice. And yet, even with that strength, He is near when the lights go out in our lives. The devotional below suggests that just like a thunderstorm clears the air, spiritual storms can reveal, refine, and refresh us—if we let them.

The truth is: no storm—emotional, physical, or spiritual—can overpower the One who created the skies.

  • When was the last time you went through a spiritual storm?
  • Did it help you see God differently—or more clearly?
  • What practices help you stay anchored in God when everything else is shaking?
