My home is a Craftsman style built in the early 1930s. Solid as a rock, but always needs some upkeep
Tell us about your older house and issues that come with it.
Our house was built in 1972. It has wood siding so it could use an upgrade of some sort.
Oh, I just discovered this thread and have to comment! The home I share with my husband and two young children had its centennial this year!! I am an old soul so despite the challenges that can come with living in an older home, it suits me well. It is a sturdy brick row house, originally built as a Sears, Roebuck catalog home!
I love imagining how the house originally looked on the inside (I don’t think the outside has changed much—we still have the original windows and front door!) and who the people were who lived here.
It was a bit nerve-wracking to buy such an old home, especially as our first house, but we are almost seven years in and we have thankfully not had any major issues.
It is a smaller home, compared to modern American standards. It seems like all my friends move out to the suburbs when they have kids for a bigger yard and more space, but we love our little city home and plot. I’m not sure how much longer we will be here, but this home will undoubtedly always hold such a special place in my heart. So much life has been lived here! It’s where I brought my babies home to and where I’m raising them. It’s imperfect, but I know the time and effort we spend taking care of it is good work that is pleasing to God.
