Passion vs. Duty

Of late I have been in conflict with how I am with my walk with God. I read Psalms and can see the Passion in the verses. Reading Charles Swindoll’s books and watch Tony Evans, their Passion is also quite evident. However I don’t have that passion. I feel its more along the lines of Duty.
I read my Bible out of a sence of duty. I go to Church out of a sence of duty not because I am excited or passionate about doing so. This bothers me, because I feel I need to be passionate about these things. While thinking on this, I realized that I really dont have passion for anything. It seems that everything I do is because of duty, work, hobbies, family tiime etc. How can I get passion in my life and in particular passion with my walk with God?

Do you feel like everything you do is for someone else? If so, try to carve out a little time to do what you want. Sometimes that can feel impossible but even ten minutes a day makes a difference.

Dear friend in Christ,

You are doing some very important things by reading the Bible daily and going to Church to worship the Lord and support other Christians in the congregation. Continue these, by all means! In fact, try and make time to increase your Bible reading and studies, and see if you can assist the congregation in any way. Slowly but surely, the Lord will work to fill you with the Holy Spirit and your feelings of “duty” will change to ones of passion and praise and joy to be a child of God. Remember to have patience is virtue. God’s timing does not always fit our own, my friend. Yours in Christ, Gregory Terrell

Hello…there was this tiny little book I came upon once…it is ancient old and free to read on google. It is called “The Practice of the Presence og God” by Brother Lawrence. You might find it a bit of treasure too.

Background…Brother Lawrence way back when got hurt in a war and joined a monastery. A very menial life as a monastery cook eventually led to depression. Then, one day the brother learned how to live in constant communion and communication with God. It changed his life. He recounts how the simple task of picking up a straw became a joy!.

It is a classic, simple and sweet. My own life has been greatly blessed.
