Passover 2025 will be celebrated from April 12 - April 20.
The first Seder will be on April 12 after nightfall, and the second Seder will be on April 13 after nightfall.
For the Jewish people, it’s a time of remembrance. A memorial pointing back to a single historical event-- the exodus from Egypt. It’s the most significant holiday on the Jewish calendar.
In simplest terms-- it’s a cruel memory, recalling generations of slavery in Egypt-- but the end of that oppression, which came about by horrific means>>
In Hebrew it is known as Pesach (which means “to pass over”), because God passed over the Jewish homes when killing the Egyptian firstborn on the very first Passover eve.
Why do you say the Israelites were freed by a horrific means?
Remember the ’ passover ’ was the last of ten plagues, of ten requests to release the Israelites, ten increasingly dramatic demonstrations of God’s power and determination to obtain their freedom.
It is not as if the Egyptians didn’t know what was happening, with the nile turning to blood etc et etc, they affected all egyptians and they were aware of the options to avoid the consquences.
“‘I will pass through the land of Egypt in the same night, and I will attack all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both of humans and of animals, and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment."
You could argue it to be a means to an end, but that wouldn’t make it any less horrific. World War II ended in a horrific way-- or do you think otherwise?
The reality of life is that God grants us life, has the right as creator to demand our compliance with his rules, the right to judge us and the right to end our lives.
The egyptians had what people today haven’t got, devine actions affecting their daily lives.
It was no 15 minutes of fame, reread the plagues, see how no one in egypt escaped them and note they did not change their attitude towards God.
It shows how deluded present day atheist are who say’ if God gave me a sign I would believe’.
They have mutiple signs, the sun rising every morning, their next breath, the wonders of creation all around them and Jesus’s resurrection.
