Father God, I praise You this morning for being God and God alone!
How I love You as You loved me first! I’m so thankful to You and thankful to You Lord Jesus Christ! However, as You very well know, I’m battling alcoholism. I agree with You that it is a sin to over indulge in alcohol!
Your Word says “Do not b drunk with wine but be filled with the Spirit!”.
I ask once again for this stronghold to be broken! For me to be free of addiction and to be a new creation in You!
I want to be a “good and faithful servant” and this is the biggest obstacle in my life!
I know that through You Jesus I have the victory and I need to walk in it in obedience to You!
May my prayers and the prayers of those who are in agreement with me be heard Almighty God and I thank You for those who will.
In the Mighty and Matchless Name of JESUS
Amen
Our God does deliver, but He doesn’t always deliver. Addiction is a complicated thing and no two people are alike. Nor is their situation alike. Sometimes our addiction is something we must offer up to God before He will take it from us. That offering up is done in the moment of craving and in that inward battle we make the choice to ask for His help and when His help comes, we take it.
Because here’s the thing. When we are in that in-between place of reaching for a drink and knowing that we shouldn’t, a battle between our flesh and our spirit is going on. If we ask for His help during that battle, we can’t ask and then not take His help; for He will definitely help us. We ask, we receive and then we hand it over to Him and leave it there. The battle’s still not over because the craving will come back. The more we hand it over to Him when the craving is at its peak, the more we learn and trust in His faithfulness and our faith grows.
Some want their addiction gone because of the harm it does, but secretly in their soul they like what it does for them. To hand it over means coming into agreement with what God has to say about it. Not just words, but heartfelt agreement. It’s a turning from that addiction and there will be pain in that turning. He helps us - yes, but we also have to do our part. We can’t secretly hold onto that which we ask to be gone.
I hope this helps. Praying for you now.
