Prayer for successful sponsorship

For several years I have been attempting to sponsor my wife to live with me in Canada. We met and courted and then married and lived with each other while I had filed the first attempt to sponsor her. But due to issues in the immigration system in Canada, we were told by our first lawyer that the agent who was overseeing our application would not approve her to stay. They kept believing that I was somehow influenced by her family to sponsor her. Which is rather ironic in that her family does not speak with my wife, nor did we ever associate with them.

So now I am on attempt number two with a new lawyer who has extensive experience not only in Canada but also in the US with sponsorship and the insights into how the sponsorship laws work as well as the process. He has posted countless videos on how the agents in Canada, often without looking at the application, deny legitimate claims, as well as how the agents are breaking the immigration laws, and he takes them to court to rectify the case. We have been informed that once again my wife will have to go through the interview process for consideration to be allowed to be a resident in Canada. I am told by the lawyer often that when they seek to do an interview, it is because they do not believe the premise around how we met and the premise on why we would marry, and that the agent believes there was influence to sponsor my wife. This is just not the case, and I believe there are not any grounds to the interview process other than to intimidate us and then use that intimidation to discount our application once again.

I am asking for prayer and for a way to be made, because I do not think the Canadian government is acting legally nor honorably when it comes to actual legal claims for residency. They seem to want to usher in illegal immigration in enormous numbers and to discourage legal, law-abiding people.

As an update to my request for prayer, thank you to all those who prayed. We did not get approved for sponsorship, but what we did get was far more valuable. We learned why we had been denied in the past and what we need to address in our marriage to be successful. We did not intend to be put off by Canada because if we follow Jesus, we could end up being anywhere in the world, married and in love as we age. The key is that we both look to Jesus in our service to each other and to the body of Christ.

While the answer wasn’t what you had hoped for, it’s clear the Lord is still guiding your steps. Psalm 84:11 reminds us, “No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” Sometimes the greater gift is clarity and deeper unity, just as you’ve received.

Your trust in Jesus and your commitment to one another is a testimony. Wherever He places you, may your marriage be a light to those around you and a witness to His faithfulness. I will continue to pray for wisdom, peace, and open doors in His perfect time.

Keep looking to Him. He is always working for your good (Romans 8:28).
