I came across a sight concerning whether or not God whispers to us. A lot of responders took issue with God speaking to us by quoting the Bible picking out passages that meet their criteria. It is vary clear to me they left out the Holy Ghost in trying to tell their readers that God has no intentions of speaking to us in whispers or any way else. I have heard this before and wondered who some readers give it credence to believe God is a quiet God and not interested in us, in our daily lives. I was looking at the tree in Kings when I found this site as a popup site.
How he communicates and even more important are we listening is the question.
Psalms19:- tells us that the The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
**2 **Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
**3 **They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
**4 **Yet their voice[b] goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
We have the bible, the Word of God, if one is not reading/studying it how can one claim God is not speaking.
Then there are church services where faithful authors have composed songs of praise to God and earnest men seek to expound the bible.
If we are not partaking in these service how can we expect to hear God speaking to us.
Do we talk about Gods word, do we discuss our hope to serve God with other mature Christians and do we tell God of our hopes and ambitions and do we actually seek opportunities to serve God by being active in ones local church.
If one isn’t doing these things then you will not hear from God.
Great question. Also, an excellent response from @Who-me. I just wanted to add a couple of things. YES, absolutely, if you are not in the Word or going to Church, you are somewhat limiting your ability to hear God. I also want you to think about this.
Exodus 12:37 and Numbers 1:46 record that the Israelite army numbered 600,000 men. If we include women, children, and the elderly, this could imply a total population of about 2.4 million. That is not including the rest of the population at the time. Who did God speak to? Moses. Joshua. And?? The rest? So two out of 2.4 + million people.
Can God talk directly to us? Of course, He is God. Is this a common occurrence to audibly hear the voice of God? No. Only a very few in history were blessed this way. However, we do not have the Word. This is God speaking to every one of us. Following up on what Whome said, the closer you get to God, the easier it is to hear or understand what God wants you to know. Or do.
I have four children. Well, two adults and two children. If my oldest moves across the country and does not stay in touch, I can do nothing for her. I cannot even talk to her. If the other three are “under my roof,” I am there for and with them. I can call out “Elijah.” He would hear and respond, " Yes, Dad?" Maya? Same, etc. My oldest would not hear me or have anything to do with my blessings. Do you get my point?

If you ask 1000 people how the Lord speaks to them, you’ll get 1000 different answers! However very much will be similar to each other, yet different and personalized.
I have heard the audible voice of God one time, and I learned to be able to hear His still small voice inside of me. I don’t hear it all the time, in fact I used to hear it more than now. But even then, He would seem to be silent at times.
One time I prayed and asked God a question, and I heard no answer. Ok pray the same question the next day and the next day and the next day and, you get the picture. I had gotten used to hearing His still small voice so…began neglecting reading Hid Word. After about two weeks of silence, I finally reached for my bible and flipped it open…right to the page and verse which answered my question. So I have to say that through His Word and Holy Spirit is the primary way in which He speaks to us.
John 4:24
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth…/KJV
All prayer is worship whether you realize it or not. SO in order to receive His voice and hear Him, we must be focused from our spirit and in tune with His Spirit. Like turning a radio dial and tune it in. Hard to do? It can be if we are used to what we can see (our carnal self) likes to take over and anaylze everything, but the unseen spirit of God is foolishness to the carnal man. Solution: go inside yourdelf and give room and focus to your spirit man to be open to receive God’s voice. We must sensitize ourselves to the presence of the Lord and our awareness of Him. Then listen and you may hear Him.
Most can not receive it because they can not see God, only the material world so they don’t pay much attention to the Spiritual world. Stop doing that! If you beieve in Radio waves and wireless internet and you have never seen them, yet you believe in them because you can see the manifistation of it’s effect around you. Ok so Believe that God is there and He is trying to talk to you and make that a proclamation that you will find Him and hear Him.
Anyone who knocks, it shall be opened. He who seeks, finds. Make it a daily habit to being open to the reality of the spiritual realm, that place that God dwells while He waits on you to come looking for Him.
I attest to the truth of what what shown to me. I have so many testimonies of, the Lord and what He has done and shown me.
I say shown me, in spirit. I have not seen anything supernatural yet. Only manifistations of me asking for this or that in prayer.
