I read today that on this day Sept 23 ,1857 exactly at 12 noon Jeremiah Lanphier began a one hour prayer meeting. He had placed a placard outside the building which said, “Prayer Meeting from 12 to 1 o’clock - stop 5, 10 or 20 minutes or the whole hour if your time admits”. Six came that day. Only 6. They agreed to meet the following Wednesday. 20 men came. The Wednesday after that 40 attended. It was decided to meet daily at that time. That very week the nation was staggered by the worst financial panic in its history. Banks closed, men lost their jobs and families went hungry. There was fear everywhere. During this season of chaos people from every denomination and walk of life began crowding into the rented buildings. These were not necessarily churches. Lanphier had no way of knowing that it was the beginning of a great national revival which would sweep more than a million persons into the kingdom of God!
All this to say that I believe the nations of Canada and the US are ripe for revival. All it would take is one person with a placard outside a building giving of one hour a day to start. Anyone game?
What an inspiring story! It’s amazing how one small act of faith can spark something so powerful. You’re right—revival can start with just one willing heart. Who’s ready to take that first step?
Revival often has a start where faithful people are praying.
The revival in Scotlands islands started because of prayer. Link:-
Hi,
Good story.
When the going gets rough, many will turn to God.
God is their last and final hope.
What happens when the crisis is over?
God has made their way easy again.
How many stay with Him after the crisis is over?
That’s the difference between lip service, and true faith.
Jeremiah 12:2 Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.
KJV
How many give God actual control, vs. lip service?
Still, we rejoice in the ones that stay.
Blessings
