Does the United States need to have a draft in case we get involved in a ground war, or are attacked?
Things to consider:
Is a ground war likely in our computerized world?
Can we find educated, fit, and mentally stable young people in the numbers needed? Or would exceptions be made?
Should a college student deferment be made like it was during the Vietnam war?
I’m sure the Ukrainians would say that a ground war is definitely a possibility still.

I sure hope a military draft doesn’t happen anytime soon. I’ve still got a while before I turn 27 and become exempt. Besides, I can’t stand the thought of killing people. I feel like I’d be either (1), Killing my own brothers/sisters in Christ, or (2), Sending potential brothers/sisters in Christ to hell. That’s why I’m not going to join the Air Force even though I want too really bad.

You can register as a conscientious objector:
“ Service as a Conscientious Objector
Two types of service are available to conscientious objectors, and the type assigned is determined by the individual’s specific beliefs. The person who is opposed to any form of military service will be assigned to alternative service – described below. The person whose beliefs allow him to serve in the military but in a noncombatant capacity will serve in the Armed Forces but will not be assigned training or duties that include using weapons.
Alternative Service
Conscientious objectors opposed to serving in the military will be placed in the Selective Service Alternative Service Program. This program attempts to match COs with local employers. Many types of jobs are available, however the job must be deemed to make a meaningful contribution to the maintenance of the national health, safety, and interest. Examples of alternative service are jobs in:
- conservation
- caring for the very young or very old
- education
- health care
Length of service in the program will equal the amount of time a man would have served in the military, usually 24 months.”

I know several people who served alternative service… including a few who served with the Air Force.

That sounds pretty cool, but the only reason I would want to join the Air Force is so that I could fly around in planes dropping bombs and all that other stuff.
You’ll definitely need some college for that and actually you’d have better luck flying the cool stuff if you considered getting into a military academy.

Yeah. I’m thinking about becoming a stunt-pilot instead. I think that’s the closest I’m going to try to get.
