Please don’t wear them.
Grew up in the Episcopal church. Several congregations make regular use of an incense that would put the worst combination of “BO” and fragrances to shame. Colognes and perfumes have never bothered me!
I had someone “mention in love” to me that my sneezing was distracting during the service.
I was sitting near Mr. English Leather and his wife, Mrs. Avon Timeless.
So, did you “mention in love” to Mr. E.L. and Mrs A.T. that their scent made you sneeze?
No, lol. I suffered in silence so not to offend. What if it hurt their feelings and embarrassed them? They may have left the church. I popped Benadryl when I got home.
Please don’t wear… it can be overwhelming
Hopefully not too far off topic-- but my wife has a quilt shop and when it opened just prior to Christmas we had put in a few of those Glade- apples and cinnamon scent plug-ins. She had hundreds of customers come through, and dozens remarked how lovely the store smelled-- It smells like the holidays, it smells like Christmas, it smells so good in here…
Then, just this past month we got a note through our point of sale system-- where customers are invited to leave feedback. -It said-- “Beautiful shop! So very warm and inviting, and I would love to come and take classes, but I have to tell you-- I can’t stand the scented fragrances. They bother me so much that I could never take a class there as I couldn’t take exposing myself to it for hours on end. Thought you should know.”
What should be done? By the numbers most love the fragrant shop-- while ONE person complained about it.
It reminds me of when my boys were little. There was one girl who was allergic to peanut butter. A note came home from a teacher, telling (not asking) parents to stop making and sending peanut butter sandwiches in school lunches. Can you imagine your school years-- without peanutbutter sandwiches? Should personal problems be everyone’s problems, or should they stay personal?
The house of God isn’t a candle shop that is visited occasionally. But, as I said, I suffered in silence.
Hi,
History prof, was the church so small that you couldn’t just move to different seat away from the odor?
Would that not be the simplest solution?
Blessings
It was an extremely small sanctuary, and I did move.
