The Gate of the Lord

This is the gate of the LORD;
the righteous shall enter through it. Psalm 118:20 RSV

What do we do when we find the gate?

Hi,
Let’s look at the text:

Psalms 118:17-20 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.
The LORD hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death.
Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD:
This gate of the LORD, into which the righteous shall enter. KJV

So David is writing about everlasting life.
Chasten means discipline such as spanking a child.
It hurt bad hence the soreness.
It quite possibly could have been a physical malady.
But at least whatever God did to David did not kill David.
David is asking for the gates to be opened.
Which means David could not open them himself.
It is the Lord’s gate and it appears that it has to be opened from the inside.
Being let in, David said he would praise the Lord.

The key to this gate resides with the gatekeeper.
The only way through the gate is to know the gatekeeper.
To know the Lord, we have to let the Lord through our gate.

Revelation 3:20-21 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Doesn’t that tie together so neatly?
You let Jesus in, and he will let you in.
Oh yeah, what’s the key?
It was the same for David as it is for you and me,
Faith.

Blessings

Go through it.

Because of Jesus’s rigthousness that we can go through it.

After we repent of our sin, aren’t we righteous, also?

Many drunks, abusers, junkies etc repent/express sorrow about their acts but don’t do anything more.

A sinner who repents of their sins has to also accept Jesus.

Just being sorry is not enough.

When I say “Repent,” I mean, “Stop sinning.”

Repent means to be seriously sor for ones actions/words etc and that one intends to change.

As for stopping sinning, even Paul struggled with doing things he didn’t want to do.
If stopping sinning was easy or even possible there wouldn’t be so many mentions of the need to stop sinning.

I think “repent” is defined different ways, but if you don’t stop sinning, what have you accomplished?

Sinning is failure to Love God with all ones mind, spirit/soul and body.

The Lord gives us some commandments to obey. These help define sin.

Yes the 10 C sumariesed as the two great commands to Love God and to Love our Neighbours.
