Has God ever provided for you in a way that was completely unexpected? Not just financially, but emotionally, relationally, spiritually? Lately I’ve been thinking about how provision doesn’t always look like what I asked for… but often turns out to be exactly what I needed. Would love to hear your stories of God showing up sideways.
I got a cute story for you. I just bought this, uh, “Car” Chevey Chevette from a friend at work, and it broke down at a four-way major intersection. I was able to get it to the minimart across the street. I got out and popped the hood. I have ZERO automotive knowledge, so I stood there staring into the engine.
All of a sudden, there was a shadow standing behind me. “Broke down, did you?” Thinking to myself, No, just staring into the engine as a hobby. But what I did say was “yeah.” He said, “Are you a Christian?” Kinda shocked, I was only a Christian for a very short time then, I said, “Yeah?” He said, “Then I have to help you, don’t I?”
He walks over to this truck with a care carrier on the back. On the car carrier was what appeared to be a brand new sports car. I watched as he unloaded the sports car and parked it in the parking lot of the minimart. Backed up and put my, sorry but POS, Chevy Chevette on the carrier. Looked at me and said, “Where do ya want to go? “
He took me there, refused money for his help, and rode off into the sunset. Was he a fellow Christian? Was He just someone God used? Was he an Angel? Remember, the word declares we should be careful how we treat people.
“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” Hebrews 13:2
What did I, as a baby Christian, learn?
“But whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 10:33
I was asked, I did not hesitate to answer, and I was helped. How did he know? Who was he? I have never seen him again. So yeah, that was one of the first times I even dealt with something like this. But in all things, God is good.
