Not only are half of the most popular influencers Mormon, but shows like “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” and trends like dirty soda shops have swept Gen Z. Since 2021, multiple true crime documentaries and mini-series about Mormons have premiered in succession (“Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey”, “Murder Among the Mormons”, “Under the Banner of Heaven”, and more) and coming soon, “Surviving Mormonism” on Peacock.
Where does this interest in Mormon culture come from? Why do you think there is so much media being made about Mormons in particular? If there are any Mormons here, how do you feel about this representation?
Joseph Smith used the occult “seer stone” to try to find hidden treasure from the Revolutionary war. He lifted large portions of his doctrine from popular books of the day. However, he really hit pay dirt when he repackaged Christianity as being based on how special each person could become.
Christianity was supposed to be about the transition from the selfishness of the flesh to the selfless love of Christ.
2Co 5:15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
One might expect that a region more focused on self would be more attractive.
