Would love to hear others’ thoughts on Lunar New Year and Zodiacs. ![]()
That article was really interesting! As I’ve seen friends (particularly Asian ones) celebrate Lunar New Year, I’ve been wondering how much of it is cultural and how much has a spiritual element. The popularity of Chinese New Year celebrations seems to be growing in America, at least in my experience. Even the sweet little Asian girl in my son’s preschool class gave him a Chinese New Year-themed Valentine! I’d really like to hear directly from someone who grew up in Chinese culture what this time of year means to them and how they view its significance. I’m sure it would make for a very interesting discussion!
The Spring festival Gala is taking place in Beijing and the show the AI robots put on was absolutely remarkable and kind of scary. Imagine if these same robots were outfitted as soldiers for battle. The USA doesn’t have anything that even comes close.
I did not grow up in the culture, but I went to High school along side it. We had a lot of students from other cultures – latino, curdish, muslim and asian – I do remember the Chinese kids being excited one year (I think it was because it was the ‘year of the dragon’) and asking what year everyone was born.
Turns out I was born in the ‘year of the rat’. LOL!

Haha! I remember my sister and I having a lot of fun pouring over the menu at our local Chinese restaurant growing up, reading through the meaning of each animal and which one each year was associated with. I don’t remember which year I was born in, though!
