What Does It Really Mean that God “Rejoices Over Us with Singing”? (Zeph. 3:17)

I’ve been thinking a lot about Zephaniah 3:17 — especially the part that says God “rejoices over you with singing.”

I love the imagery, but I also wonder how literally we’re supposed to take it. Is this God expressing delight the way a parent sings to a child? Or is it poetic language pointing to a deeper truth about how God relates to us?

For anyone who digs into the Hebrew or theologians like Lewis or Tozer, how have you understood this verse?
And on a more personal level, have you ever actually felt God delight in you?

I think of it as God bursting into asong because we’ve done something praiseworthy, like sports fans singing when there team wins.
