What is the proper way to pray?

If you’re comfortable sharing, how do you pray?

How would you describe it to someone who’s unsure where to begin? Is there a proper way to pray?

What does it sound like for you? What do you focus on?

I start by thanking God for as many things as I can think of. I then start to ask about helping me with personal challenges. I then shift to family and friends. It’s always a little different, like a conversation between friends.

If you are looking for a formula around which to shape your prayers try:- A.C.T.S. where

A= Adoration, praising God for who he is, what he has done.

C= Confession of ones sins, wrong doings, feeling of inferiority etc etc

T = Thanksgiving, thanking God for life, the world, food, clothing, work, health, salvation etc etc

S= Supplication, only now bring out the long, long shopping list of wants, real needs etc etc

Pray is difficult but basicly do it, talk to God, tell him what angers you, what disapoints you, of your hopes etc.

At the same time do pray for a far wider need, those in your church, those being perscuted ( you do know details about them? ) for peace in ukrain, somalia, gaza, Nepal etc

Probably not in your left mind

I so often find myself at a loss for words when it comes to prayer, whether due to current events or the state of the world or simply because I’m tired and have had a long day. In those instances, I like to turn to liturgies and prayers that Christians have been praying for centuries and have stood the test of time. Something about joining my voice and heart with other believers through the ages is very grounding and helps me get into a good frame of mind to focus on God.

Sometimes I think of these already existing prayers (such as those from the Book of Common Prayer or various catechisms, etc.) as “pre-made” prayers.

This article goes into more detail. :folded_hands:

Is it OK for Christians to Pray ‘Pre-Made’ Prayers?
