What is your favorite thing about your husband or wife? How have they blessed your marriage with their patience, humor, selflessness, loyalty, or other attribute?
As we enter fall, the season of gratitude and thankfulness, here are 10 little ways to show your spouse you’re thankful for them.
My husband was an abused child. His mother strongly favored his 2 sisters over him: for instance, he would get punished for things even if they did it. He also had no experience with smaller children: the first baby he ever held was my niece.
All that said, when we had our first daughter, his parenting instincts went through the roof! Now, I had a baby brother and several nieces & nephews, plus I babysat around my neighborhood…but he would come up with parenting hacks, ideas & concepts that I never would have thought of! The first time he changed a diaper, which was while we were still in the hospital, a nurse stood by, and she couldn’t believe that he’d never changed one before.
I only had to correct him on one thing: our daughter did something “naughty” and he called her a “bad girl”. I quickly took him into another room and gently told him that the CHILD wasn’t bad; the BEHAVIOR was. He never made that mistake again.
Our daughters are now adults - ages 19 and 21 - and they have a great relationship with their Daddy.
So that’s it: my favorite thing about my husband is his mad parenting skills when his background should have made him a terrible father.
