What's the difference between gluttony and feasting?

Gluttony and feasting differ significantly in biblical terms: while feasting celebrates God’s provision with gratitude and self-control, gluttony reflects a lack of restraint and selfish excess. Recognizing the difference involves evaluating intent and the presence of discipline in enjoying God’s blessings. #FaithfulLiving #BiblicalWisdom #GluttonyVsFeasting #ChristianSelfControl #HonorGod

When it comes to food and celebrations, the Bible talks about both feasting and gluttony, but how do we know the difference between them? Feasting appears throughout scripture as a way to honor God and enjoy His blessings, while gluttony is often mentioned as a sin. So, how can we distinguish between the joy of a celebration and the excess that might cross into gluttony? What role do intention, self-control, and gratitude play in how we approach food?

Spiritualizing a possible medical disorder is dangerous. Those who grow up in poverty and hunger may grab every bite they can, fearing the next bite could be days away. Thyroid conditions cause some who eat normally to stow away calories.

Gluttony is not confined to overeating. The American obsession with clothes, cars, etc. can be a type of glutton.

This article sounds like the author is jealous of those who enjoy fine dining, or has binged too many cooking shows.

And, of course, one can stop using drugs. You can’t stop eating. Have. Little compassion for those folks you have judged to be gluttons.

I had an experience today that I believe crosses the line.
I took a friend who is spending 6 months in our back yard in her RV to a church food give away. The whole town is invited, anyone in need.
Fresh produce is very difficult to come by in my hinterland town.
So when I go, I try to pick what we need being mindful of the many in line behind me.
I chose celery and bread as there was no fresh produce left but carrots and green leaf lettuce. I have lettuce and carrots in the fridge.
My friend came back with 2 bags full. Me not knowing how she’ll store all of it cause her section in our fridge is pretty full.
I told her please only take what you need.
Not judging her but she is giving the lettuce to her chickens rather than eating it and she look a large cake. Not sure how she’ll eat it all before it goes bad, without a fridge. She already has bread in my freezer of which she also stocked up on.

To me this is gluttony. There are people in worse need than she. She eats dinner at my table. And it a well rounded meal.

Gluttony is when one eats way to much past being satisfied.
Gluttony is also taking way more than one will possibly eat leaving a plate with food on it.

I grew up very poor and learned that we ate till satiated not stuffed cause we needed our food to last the week.

Maybe I’m wrong about her but excess of anything is gluttony. Materialistic for food.

It’s kind of like the church potlucks I’ve been too where fat people first in line stock their plates full while the 150th person does not eat cause nothing is left.

It’s a sad thing… gluttony. Yes there are times when I’ve eaten too much but my poor upbringing and those left in line are big factors for me.
