When Following God Feels Like Starting Over

Have you ever felt like obeying God meant leaving behind something you worked hard for—whether a dream, a relationship, or even a sense of identity?
Sometimes obedience doesn’t look like a straight path forward, but more like starting again with empty hands. If you’ve ever been there, what helped you stay grounded in faith when everything felt uncertain?

There’s a video on you tube titled - “They look like regular people, until they start singing” (or something like that).

I just love these videos where someone is auditioning, with nothing. No credentials, no training, no resume. And they have nothing about them that is above average attractive, like they are old or whatever, you know they don’t fit the mold at all of “Star Quality”.

So the video is like an hour long if I remember right, of people who just open their mouths and out it comes - their song that just blows everyone away. And everybody cheers and somebody slaps the golden buzzer and the confetti rains down and all their dreams come true.

@ellenvera - that song is in you as well. The one that’s yours. But yeah, sometimes we have to let go of what we’ve been doing so that we can start singing the song that God has for us. And it’s hard and terrifying and even painful. But the angels will clap for the wondrous thing that God has planned, and there’s a prize to be won.

May God bless your journey, and give you eyes to see your way. (Hint: start or keep on serving!). One step follows from the last step. God will remake your life into one in which you can exercise your gifts to His glory!

Because following God means living by his rules and not societies customs.

So living with a girl/boy friend or having sex with them is out. The casual cheating or deliberate misleading of customers/colleagues/employers is out, absolute honesty is the rule.

This can end friendships or careers, as well as build them in different areas.

Activities change, as do interests.

Jesus came that we might have Life and that we might live it to the fullest extent.

That does not involve drunkenness etc but fellowship with family and friends.

For me the fact that thst I’ve lived in darkness and addiction and God saved me after I overdosed off a drug I didn’t even use someone slipped on me. He brought me back truly a new creation. No longer interested in the things I was a slave to .With this. New life I feel like I’ve started from the bottom stripped of all the worldly sins. Money relationship sex. But what I’ve gained my kids grandkids family love faith dignity. I wouldn’t trade it for any of what the world had to offer. Following Jesus Is the best thing life has to offer me.

I love how these go together.

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2

“Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62

It is never about us. Once we are adopted, our focus should be on being filled and blessed so that we can pour into and bless the lives of others. If you find that you don’t look any different from those in the world after you have been saved, I encourage you to spend some time in prayer, reading the Word, and reflecting.

Peter
