When the Light Disrupts Your Plans

Have you ever noticed that Jesus’ first command was not “be comforted,” but “repent”? When He stepped into Galilee, Scripture says the light shined into darkness, and nothing stayed neutral ~Matthew 4:16–17. Following Him immediately cost fishermen their nets, their routines, and their sense of control.

So here is the real question. When Christ calls you to follow Him, are you willing to leave what you trust behind, or do you try to keep Jesus while holding onto the nets that make you feel secure?

That’s such a convicting question.

I’d love to say I drop my “nets” right away, but the truth is, sometimes I drag them behind me for a while. Not always out of rebellion, sometimes just habit. Familiar routines, old fears, even good things that I’ve started to lean on a little too much.

But I’ve found that when I do let go, when I truly follow, there’s a deeper peace on the other side. Even if it costs me something. I’m learning that security in Christ isn’t the same as comfort. It’s better.

Thank you for this reminder today.
