Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.” Jeremiah 17:7
It’s one thing to say “trust God,” and another thing to do it when nothing makes sense. What helps you actually put your confidence in Him when circumstances feel shaky?
So life has suddenly kicked you in the teeth, you’re down and life is stamping on you.
What do you put your trust in?
Who or What do you turn to for the strength to get up and start picking up the pieces of your life?
Faith/trust has to be exercised. You put your trust/faith in what you believe will get you through your crisis, whether that is atheism or God is up to you.
You must summons up the courage to put your trust/faith in God and he will give you the ability, moment by moment to get through your problem.
I can assure you it is not easy but God is faithful and he does help you through it.
Again, if you are not trusting in God in the darkest moments of your life, when you cannot see a way out, then what are you putting your trust in?
I call it an altar but that’s just for lack of a better word. It’s taken from the time the Israelites crossed the Jordan and God told them to take 12 stones; one for each tribe and build an altar on the other side of the Jordan after they had crossed. It was to remind them of what the Lord did for them. A physical reminder every time they looked at it, so that’s what I do in my own way.
i think about the times the Lord acted in my life. The times I know it was Him. Each time is a stone and all the stones form an altar. I remember each detail and give Him thanks again for it. And I think to myself that if God was so for me during all those times, then why wouldn’t He be for me now? It’s not that I’m expecting Him to fix the problem, but that He knows, loves me and is in control. However it turns out, He’s in control. I’ve seen His hand so many times in my life and not all of those times meant peace. In the end, it worked out in some fashion and all the worry I allowed was a waste of time.
Once I was involved in a stressful situation as someone’s power of attorney. What needed to be done took forever and was one step at a time. I would do something and then wait. I’d get an answer and take the next step. The time between the doing and waiting was long. I started out feeling stressed and with no confidence that it would ever get accomplished. Half way through I started to relax and got used to the prolonged rhythm. Eventually it all worked out and the problem was solved.
So what I learned through that experience is that sometimes you need to go through it and just because it takes forever doesn’t mean that God isn’t present. I’m not His only child. Who knows what needed to happen on the other end. Whether His answer comes quickly or a lot of time later, He’s heard me. That’s what I can trust in.
The two places more likely to find people willing to hear about Jesus is prisons and hospitals. Country clubs are perhaps least likely. This is because prosperity, ease, and comfort are conditions of self-contentment. Difficult, hardship, and pain are often conditions in which we will trust in God because we know we can’t trust in ourselves.
