When You Feel Overlooked, Is God Still Working Behind the Scenes?

As Christians reflect on God’s timing, hidden purpose, and the pain of being passed over, we invite your voice in Crosswalk Forums.

We’ve all been there—watching someone else get the opportunity, platform, or recognition we longed for. Whether it’s a job promotion, ministry role, or simply being appreciated for our effort, feeling overlooked can cut deep. It’s especially painful when it feels like we’ve done everything “right”—yet we’re still waiting.

Keri Eichberger’s recent devotional on Crosswalk offers a powerful reminder that just because people pass us over doesn’t mean God has. Sharing a real-life example from parenting and a study of Mordecai’s delayed reward in the book of Esther, she writes:
“Don’t mistake being passed over by a person for being passed over by God.”

That truth hits home. Mordecai saved the king’s life and was forgotten… for two years. But when his moment came, it was orchestrated so precisely that the delay was the setup for God’s greater glory.

This raises important questions for all of us:

  • Have you ever felt passed over for something you thought was part of your calling?
  • How do you stay faithful when no one seems to notice your faithfulness?
  • What stories in Scripture—or your own life—remind you that God’s delays are not His denials?

Let’s encourage one another with stories and Scripture today. If you’re in a season of feeling invisible, this may be your reminder: God sees. And He’s not done.

“For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.” – Romans 11:36
