Who was Matthew Henry?

Matthew Henry’s Commentary, written over 300 years ago by a dedicated Nonconformist minister, is still widely recommended today. The post invites others to share how they use it—whether for devotion, study, or teaching—and whether they find it worth diving into.

I recently came across Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible and was struck by how often it’s still recommended. It was written over 300 years ago!! From what I gather, he was a Nonconformist minister who started reading Scripture as a child, preached for decades, and devoted a ton of his life to writing this six-volume work…

If you’ve spent time with his work, what stands out to you?
Do you find his style helpful for devotional reading, study, or teaching?
Quite curious how others make use of his insights and whether I should dive in completely at some point!!

I’ve used it, @JennyLynne, but it’s wasn’t helpful for my teaching or study, especially when I was a pastor, but it probably would be good for devotions.
