Who's Eating Pancakes Tomorrow?

I’m looking forward to gathering with my church community for our Shrove Tuesday dinner tomorrow evening to enjoy a dinner of pancakes and other delicious food. My kids are really looking forward to eating pancakes for dinner too. :pancakes:

Shrove Tuesday is a fun day of celebration before the more somber Ash Wednesday and start of Lent. I find that following the church calendar and observing days like this help me turn my thoughts and focus to God in a helpful way.

Do you/your church mark Shrove Tuesday? What about Ash Wednesday and Lent?

I also found the history of Shrove Tuesday really fascinating, which you can read here:

What Is Shrove Tuesday and What Is the Meaning of Eating Pancakes?

“Shrove” comes from the Old English “shrive,” which means to confess your sins.

I have never heard of pancakes on Fat Tuesday.

I’ve heard of it, but I don’t do it nor does my church do it. The meaning behind pancakes is lost on me so I’ll read the link provided sometime today. We don’t do ash Wednesday either.

What we do do for the 40 days prior to Resurrection morning is take a passage of Scripture each day and write about it. The Scripture is from any of the 4 gospels and not necessarily in order. I find it a meaningful exercise and its amazing what comes up in the group.

That sounds like a very rich practice. Reminds me that often what you give up is not as important as what you pursue.

I truly wish I was in your area. I would be there.

Well? If you eat enough of them… Not saying, I’m just saying.
