Why did Jesus say “It is finished” before the resurrection?

When Jesus said “It is finished” on the cross, the resurrection hadn’t happened yet. So what do you think He means was “finished” in that moment? Was He talking about His suffering, the fulfillment of prophecy, the payment for sin… all of it, or something else?

I’ve heard different interpretations, but I’m trying to understand what Scripture really points to here.

What does “It is finished” mean to you personally? How do you reconcile that statement with the fact that the resurrection was still to come?

From my understanding, this marked the moment Jesus declared himself the sacrifice for our sins. Prior to this, the way was to sarifice a lamb. He accomplished what he came here to do, and like anyone would after a job well done declared, “It is finished.”
