Why do you think so many biblical turning points happen in the wilderness?

So many important moments in Scripture seem to happen in deserts, wildernesses, mountains, isolation, or seasons of uncertainty.

Moses, Elijah, Jesus, the Israelites, John the Baptist…

Why do you think wilderness seasons are such a recurring theme in the Bible?

You ask great questions! I believe it has to do with noise, or lack of it. It is much quieter in the wilderness than in the city. God’s voice is like a whisper and much easier to hear in nature.

WHo was it, Elijah? God wasn’t in the thunder or the earth quake or the wind or fire (1 Kings 19:11-13).

I can do it in the city usually. I like to wake up and not even turn on a light or anything. Just sit in the quiet morning stillness and either pray or not pray or anything and just listen ready to receive.

To teach us how we can hear His still small voice?
