Why Does God Allow Us to Suffer?

Life’s hardships—from financial strain to personal loss—can feel overwhelming, but the Bible shows that suffering often carries deeper purpose. Like Job, our trials can strip away what’s temporary to awaken our souls, reveal God’s power, and draw us closer to Him, turning pain into spiritual growth and hope.

Do you ever feel that life is just too hard sometimes? Endless bills, turbulent news, and one heartbreak after another—it can all feel overwhelming.
You start to wonder: why has life become like this? Is it all just a coincidence, or is there a deeper meaning behind it? Why does God allow us to suffer?
We will seek answers from the Bible, uncovering the spiritual significance behind suffering. You might be surprised to find that many of the things we see as “tragedies” or “accidents” could actually be a way God shows His love for us.
The Bible reminds us: the body is temporary, but the soul is eternal. Sometimes, God allows our bodies to experience pain to awaken our souls and draw us closer to Him.
Remember Job? He was wealthy, devout, and living a stable life, yet overnight he lost everything—his wealth, his children, and his health were all gone. His friends doubted him, his wife told him to renounce his faith, but Job did not turn away from God. In his deepest pain, he began to cry out to God more profoundly until he “saw” God for himself. He later said, “My ears had heard of you, but now my eyes have seen you.” Perhaps this is the very purpose of suffering—not to disappoint us, but to bring us back to Him.
So, what about the storms in your life? Those moments of disappointment, struggle, and brokenness—could they be the very plan God has tailored for you, designed to bring you back into His embrace?
Suffering draws us closer to God. Suffering helps us recognize our own weakness and see His mighty power. Though the flesh is in pain, the soul is growing.
In this era full of uncertainty, if we can understand the true purpose of suffering, we can face challenges with a new perspective and find true peace and hope within them.

I believe we are here for his entertainment purposes. I think you can recite passages and know the bible inside and out, but he has already made up his mind. Whatever part he has you casted in his orchestra is final and binding. God does not change and it is well documented, in fact he probably finds it insulting if you try to change the plan he has set for you. The question I ask myself, is this how it’s going to be in heaven or in my case, would have? Is he going to correct me on everything I do or say? That’s the problem of coming off as inflexible and overpowering and being invisible. Have you ever met someone who is overbearing, a matter of fact and extremely critical of you? This is the impression I get of god.

The term “Christian” literally means a follower of Christ.

Christ” means “the long-awaited Messiah”, who is the one provided by God to personally suffer sufficiently to save humans from an eternal suffering.

Eternal suffering is the logical result of permanent separation from God, who is the single source of everything humans’ sense as goodness and fulfillment.

This understanding of eternal reality has been spoken, and demonstrated many times throughout history.
God has made sure mankind knows that He is willing to personally suffer extreme agony, agony He in-no-way deserves, in their place, as a gift of grace and love for them.
That God has made this gift very clear is irrefutable.

God is willing to undergo the ultimate human agony to save you and I from eternal suffering. This promise of salvation is very good news. This News is so good that those who receive it are able to consider their current sufferings unworthy to even be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in them.
This GREAT news drasticly lightens the effect of current sufferings, the two are not even comparable.

We recognize our temporary burdens are actually very light compared to the exceeding and eternal weight of glory that we shall enjoy for eternity. So, we do not look at the sufferings that we have experienced, but we look forward to the glory that is as-yet unseen, for the things which are eternal are as-yet unseen. Therefor our light affliction, which actually we feel is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of eternal glory.

The term “Christian” literally means a follower of Christ.
Christ suffered, the righteous for the unrighteous, with the expectation of Glory to follow. We follow Christ, so we also suffer.

I know, Planet6412, that you have told me in the past you consider God to be malicious. But what God has revealed to mankind, that which I have told you, is the very opposite of malicious, God is Love.

I’m Asking Your Father to reveal Himself to you too.

Everything you said only proves that god is all about MISERY. All this stuff about love could have another meaning, like hate. He does this by blaming everything on Satan for which I do not think exists and is a only a concept. I personally think god is unhinged and at the same time covers it up very good. Its very difficult to prove when your the one he is dumping on and does the opposite to the next person. Injustice is his number one tactic.

@Planet6412

Your personal prospective is heard, but it is so inconsistent that it leads me to think even you don’t actually hold it. The fact that you voice a very negative impression of a form of a god you have created in your own head, and yet you hang out on this Christian forum seemingly to antagonize others who testify of a personal relationship with The Only True God, whom you have obviously never met, suggests to me that you are not actually representing your own views truthfully, but are probably here just to harass and see what kind of reactions you can get. Your unjust attempts at inflammatory rhetoric speaks much more to me about your own state of mind than it does about any of the subjects you are trying to irritate. People on this forum are good people, who genuinely care about the welfare of others; they actually care about you too, if you were open to receive their affections. If you were interested in that kind of community, then you would not be speaking as you do, so I assume you are here for other reasons. I get it; you’re not that complicated. While I’m not here to be your target, I am willing to listen, if you are willing to be honest and transparent. I’m sure we could have a less antagonistic relationship If you wanted one. If not, I understand where you are coming from.

@KPuff

I guess your missing the point and cannot comprehend what im saying.

@LeeDavid, did I answer your question?

Hi,

Why would you swat the hand of your child for playing with the electric socket?

You want me child to understand tht playing with the socket is a bad thing to do; that doing that could kill him/her. So a little bit of pain for a lifetime of understanding is acceptable.

There’s something wrong inside your body. The only way to fix it is to cut the skin. So a temporary pain is necessary to fix a problem in the body.

Pain also lets you know something isn’t right.

So pain is necessary and useful.

Blessings

@Planet6412 ,

Have I comprehended what you are trying to convey below?

First, I am sorry if your life has been/is difficult, sad, full of hardship and loss.

Your commentary comes off to me as very negative and pessimistic. I am one who struggles every day but I am the eternal optimist and feel like the most blessed person for the wonderful & healthy children I have. I am sure you have read the tribulations of Job but you must read the hope from others here on our little forum. God’s love is passed through us to you. You are here for a reason and I hope it is not to antagonize worshippers. Perhaps, if some of the testimonials here don’t encourage you to open your heart, maybe you can visit a local church.

I will pray for you to see what took me a lifetime to realize, God will be there for us when we need him but we need to repent & accept Jesus into our lives. You don’t see that and are not ready to receive. I can’t challenge your “impression”/views since we are not coming from a common place of belief with a faith in God’s grace. As a Christian, I try to lead by example not by debating - I want you to join us and find the good of God; I am sorry if all you can see is your circumstance.

In closing & although you criticized that “you[We] can recite passages and know the bible inside and out”, here is a verse that may help to guide if you are willing to look deeper and not be scornful with a hardened heart.

Mark 8:17&18 (NIV):

17 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened? 18 Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember?
