Waiting can wear you down—especially when your heart is longing for something good. Whether it’s a long-prayed-for job, healing, reconciliation, or just clarity in a season of confusion, we often wonder: Why is God taking so long? But Scripture reminds us that God’s delays are never wasted.
Habakkuk 2:3 says, “Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.” Just because something is slow in arriving doesn’t mean it’s denied. In fact, much of our spiritual growth happens in the waiting. The wilderness shaped the Israelites. The ark shaped Noah. Even Jesus went into the desert before beginning His public ministry.
In this devotional, Megan J. Conner points out that waiting seasons aren’t just about surviving the pause—they’re about being shaped by it. She writes, “There is something sacred and holy about waiting for the appointed time.” God uses the delay to build patience, maturity, and fruit that lasts.
“Why does God make us wait?”
Maybe it’s because your roots are growing deeper than you realize. The fruit may be slow, but it’s coming.
What are you waiting on right now?
How has God shaped you through delays in the past?
Do you find it easier to trust in God’s timing—or to wrestle with it?
