I came across an ad for a Bible app called “Creed.” The app says it’s your Bible bff. There’s apparently an AI that helps explain the Bible to you, and you can ask it questions about faith and life. The ad intrigued me, so I tried to download it, but it never completed. It didn’t seem to have great reviews in the app store, so I’m not really mad.
Anyway, the ad though. The ad showed that there’s a setting for the AI to read the Bible to you like it’s giving you tea. So in the video ad, it was a girl sitting there listening to her phone tell the story of how Mary became with child, but in a very gossipy tone. It was like, “girl, you wouldn’t believe what the angel said to her next,” and, “and she was still a VIRGIN!” The girl sitting and listening to the “tea” got big eyes and was all, “oooohhh!”
So, on one hand - I see what they’re trying to do. Trying to appeal to a younger audience and get them interested and engaged. Quite honestly, I found the ad hilarious and wanted to hear more. BUT, I also acknowledge that I know a little more about the Bible than who they seemed to be targeting, so I feel like I can be lighthearted about the whole thing and not let it deter from true meanings and such.
On the other hand, if it’s trying to reach a younger generation and maybe teens or young adults who don’t know much about the Bible, I’m not incredibly sure if this is an appropriate approach to get their attention. I mean, I get it. I see what they’re trying to do. But, is it ok? It feels like one of those gray areas, like, maaaaybe it’s not ok…but, maybe it is.
Artificial intelligence is increasingly assuming the role of a constant digital companion in people’s daily lives, prompting growing concern among researchers and educators about the potential consequences of overreliance on these systems. Rather than fostering the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills, excessive dependence on AI may instead contribute to a gradual decline in cognitive engagement. As individuals increasingly defer reasoning tasks to AI systems, they risk exercising their own analytical faculties less frequently, leading to a form of intellectual atrophy over time.
I would be cautious. Galatian 5:9 A little leaven leaven’s the whole lump. I’m always guided by the Holy Spirit. I’m never curious about something new and possibly interesting. I prefer to go with something that is tried and true. I don’t want yeast to get into my spirit.
I’ll keep posting, even if I feel like I’m traversing this board alone. But I’m praying that whatever I do share will glorify our Lord Jesus Christ and minister grace to anyone who reads it.
