Do You Use the SOAP Method of Bible Study?

I recently learned about this Bible study approach. I appreciate its simplicity and structure. Have you used it before, even if you may not have heard it referred to by this term?

  • S – Scripture: Write down a passage
  • O – Observation: What stands out or is happening in the text?
  • A – Application: How does this apply to your life?
  • P – Prayer: Respond to God in prayer

Again, thank you for being so generous with your knowledge. Your suggestions have proven incredibly fruitful in my yearning to not just understand what I’m reading, but to ingest it, apply it, meditate on it for weeks..actually.

Yes! The SOAP method is wonderful..don’t you think? Early on in my walk I would plod through scripture not understanding anything and being frustrated by my lack of understanding. The SOAP method forced me to think about what I’m reading, particularly Observation and Application. It was a game-changer for me.
