Well exegeted @Johann
I will offer some affirming thoughts, and some supporting passages of Scripture.
Another passage that also confirms what @Johann is teaching is found in Deuteronomy 8, a saying that was repeated by Jesus to the tempter in Matthew 4:4, and Luke 4:4
So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD . Deuteronomy 8:3
Another passages that also confirm what @Johann is teaching is found in John 4.
In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” But He said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.” Therefore the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?” Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. John 4:31-34
Before the death of the incarnate Christ, He met with his disciples in that upper room, on the night in which He was betrayed, and he taught them to remember him, Every time they ate bread they were to remember his sacrificed body; every time they drank wine they were to remember his shed blood. Bread and wine were the most common elements at every meal. This admonition was to be a perpetual commmon reminder. Note, He DID NOT slice off a piece of his flesh, and DID NOT open a wound so blood would pour out, and so He DID NOT offer his physical flesh and biological blood for them to consume, although He certainly could have done this without harm If that were the object of his teaching.
After His resurrection, He met several times with his disciples, and on each of those occasions he ate and drank with them. He DID NOT suggest in any way the bread they were eating or the wine they were drinking were transubstantiated into physical flesh and blood, although He certainly could have if that were the object of this teaching.
The last three passages I will remind us of are found in Hebrews.
For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. Hebrews 7:26-27
But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all , having obtained eternal redemption. Hebrews 9:11-12
And
Previously saying, “Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the law), then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all . Hebrews 10:8-10
The most amazing thing about the personal sacrifice of God Himself to demonstrate His great Love, Redemption, Grace, Mercy, and above all His Glory is that it was a ONE TIME EVENT. Not to be repeated, but simply remembered. The common and simple elements of Thanksgiving assist us in doing just as He asked.
Thanx @Johann for your excellent work
