How Dare You, You Sin Too

What is the difference between saved and unsaved, if all sin? We read things like this.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23

Then we read this. As children of God, or saved people, we still sin.

“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” 1 John 1:8

What is the difference if these passages in the Word of God are true? How can we call out sin if we still sin? “He, without sin, let him cast the first stone.” Right? “Live and let live.” Right?

One of the world’s favorite things to say, whenever we point out sin, is this. They quote John 8:7

“And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, ‘Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.’”

Or they mock us and say things like “Oh, you are perfect,” or “Must be nice to never sin.” If they know anything about the Word, or someone they know has told them to say, “What about 1 John 1:8? Why not worry about yourself? You know, as Jesus said, take the log out of your eye.”

Are these valid arguments? What is the difference, if we all sin, and we do, between them and us? The short answer? God. Jesus. His holy blood.

“From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matthew 4:17

Also read this.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

This is the difference. Yes. It is true.

“Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.” Ecclesiastes 7:20

However, there is a major difference between that and this.

“Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.” 1 John 3:4

Read that again. “Everyone who makes a practice of sinning.” In other words, everyone who willfully continues to sin, after hearing it is sin, “practices lawlessness.”

It really is not any more complicated than that. We have Jesus; they do not. This is why it is so important for us to share our faith and the assurance we have through Christ. Sharing our faith and the hope found in Christ can make a transformative difference in people’s lives, offering them the same peace and certainty we experience. It’s a privilege and a responsibility to extend this gift of salvation to others.

“What someone writes on an online forum is not the ἐκκλησία, and the ἐκκλησία is not an online forum. The church is the gathered, covenantal assembly of Christ’s people, constituted in embodied fellowship, Word, sacrament, and mutual accountability. A digital platform may host discussion about the faith, but it is not itself the ecclesial reality.”

Just a thought brother.

If all have sinned, and this is a given, why do you personally need to go into specifics with anyone? Is it not enough to acknowledge that we are all in a fallen state, that no one can achieve perfection on their own, that salvation is in Christ Jesus, that the Holy Spirit comes to each of us to Teach Us, and is responsible for moving us closer to the Perfection and the New Creation that we are called to? And that we are all a work in progress prone to sin even as we work through the various sins in our lives?

The sin is between each one of us and God. So why is it any business of yours…

  1. Unless you yourself are directly hurt or harmed by the sin, then you have a right to confront the person so that the wrong-doing can be addressed, atoned for, behavior modified, and peace achieved. This is best used in relationship of some kind, where as an altercation with a stranger is best left for the police. And it is an assertive approach that we can take into all relationships no matter if a person is saved or not.

  2. Unless you are a Priest, a Mediator, a Counselor that the sinner goes to in order to confess, and or because they need prayer or help. This is Calling specific, for the weight of such a role comes with great responsibility and Scripture says that Judgement is harsher for those who fill these roles.

  3. Unless the sin affects the safety of another person, a community, or even the sinner themselves, in which it is proper to intervene to save the lives of others. And this is because you are your brother’s keeper.

Telling people to confess their sins is not the problem, nor is making people aware that all are sinful and fallen. In fact, I think this notion is pretty universal and redundant at this moment in time, as most people would agree. Except for maybe Narcissists, who cannot indulge the idea of being flawed for mental health reasons.

And because we are all sinners, we should all practice daily self-examination. We should all confess. And teaching this is wonderful. And if you are Catholic, the Confessionals are a wonderful way to deal with this while protecting the privacy of those who confess, as we are all called to do.

The question is, how is the sin of another person relevant to you? Are you being nosey? A gossip? Do you yourself use the knowledge of sins to hurt or harm people? To push them out of God’s House, or away from Christ? Do you do evil by inserting yourself where you do not belong? And if so, are you Truly doing the Lord’s Work? Or the Devil’s?

Compassion pursues the well-being of others. But sinfulness looks to destroy, to do violence against someone else. And it looks to do this through the Law, under the pretense of righteousness, as that of the Pharisee who were chastised by Christ for their hypocrisy. And Judgement awaits those who walk in this kind of spirit- Lifting themselves up above others as if they have reached Perfection, trampling on those who they deem lower than themselves. And using God’s Law to do so. This behavior is not of the Holy Spirit of God.

I wouldn’t worry about the sin so much as how to be saved from it.

All sin, some more than others. But those who are forgiven know God by Name, because they sought Him desperately for it.

What name is that? By what name do you call God?

It’s in Exodus 3:14, if you have a decent translation.

I don’t have a Bible near me. Go ahead and type it.

You are a real gem, aren’t you?

God only knows. And so would you if you were talking with God.

Going to try to do this point by point. I know that it may be a lesson in futility, but let’s try.

“If I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person shall die for his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. But if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, or from his wicked way, he shall die for his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul.” Ezekiel 3:18-19

“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” Romans 10:14-15

“Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.” 2 Timothy 4:2

Go tell us we should. Not out of hate, but out of love. If they do not understand they are sinning, they cannot repent. I had no idea that the speelimit drops to 30 and I’m going 60, I get stopped. I did not know is an excuse? Did I get a ticket? Or even if just a warning, now I know. Next time I will be more cautious.

Yes, however, see above.

See above.

Nope, see above.

A- I am ordained. Two, how would they know they need to?

Hell is pretty much a safety issue for those going. Do you not think?

Then what are we debating?

Again, if I do not know better, then I have no concept of the need for repentance. And No. But the confessional is a whole other issue.

No

No. Not talking about the sinner, talking TO the sinner.

No.

No, I serve God.

“But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, ‘It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this man casts out demons.’ Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand. And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?” Matthew 12:24-26

Continued.

I do. To the only mediator. His name is Jesus. I missed this point. Sorry.

Hell is pretty much NOT for the well-being of others. False compassion is silently watching one go to hell when you have the ability to warn them, and not doing so.

Correct. The lost are sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, practice idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Many times, yes, this includes others.

No. We do so through Christ. Are you saying Christ is the Law? That would be incorrect.

I’m not. I don’t. I don’t. I try to lift them up. Out of their sin. Out of their condominium. Out of hell itself before they go there. That is Love. Yes. It is the will of God that all come to what is that word, repentence and be saved. Why should I do this? See above. Above.

Peter

Yup. However.

“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” Romans 10:14-15

Peter

That may be part of the problem.
