What happens if we repent of our sin?

Repentance has always seemed to me like an invitation rather than just a command. It’s an invitation to leave behind what separates us from God and move toward His grace and forgiveness. That doesn’t erase every consequence immediately, but it does begin a new direction for our lives.

To whom is the repentant person speaking?
If it is to God the Father/Jesus then if he/she is also talking about accepting Jesus’s attoning sacrificeon their behave, then they will be saved.
If they are just saying I’ve lived a bad life and I’m sorry, addressing the empty air or demons, then nothing changes, they are still heading to hell.

I think it brings us peace of mind.
I think “repent” means to stop sinning. Otherwise, what value is it?

Again to what god is the ’ sinner ’ repenting?
Does going to a confessional box and telling a priest that one ’ repents ’ os a sin and recieving absolution and a penance actual do anything?
The fact that he feels he has to go to a priest if he sins might discourage him from sinning,
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

Do we need to repent of our sins?
Jesus began His public ministry with, “Repent and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15). Peter preached, “Repent and be baptized… for the forgiveness of your sins” (Acts 2:38). Paul declared that God “commands all people everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30).
So yes, repentance is not optional.
May I ask what prompted your question? Are you asking about repentance in relation to salvation, or repentance as the ongoing life of the believer? I think the answer depends on which aspect you have in mind.

Finally you are admitting that repentance has to be to the Christian God as required by God.
Do we need to repent? It is what God has said he wants us to do, all through the bible forgiveness is linked to repentance.

My original question read, “What happens if we repent of our sin?” I think some people fail to realize that our lives are transformed when we repent of our sins.

May I ask one question though?
When you say, “our lives are transformed when we repent,” do you mean repentance causes the transformation, or that repentance is the evidence of a heart God has already begun to transform?
I’m asking because passages like Ezekiel 36:26–27 speak of God first giving a new heart and a new spirit, John 3:3–8 speaks of being born from above, and Acts 11:18 says God granted repentance that leads to life. Those passages seem to place God’s work prior to our repentance.
So I’d certainly agree that no one comes to Christ without repentance, but I wonder if Scripture presents repentance as the fruit of regeneration rather than its cause.
What are your thoughts?

I believe when we repent, our fear disappears.
Yes. If we do not turn away from our sins, the we trample Christ and curify Him again, this is not a good place to be. As I believe Johann out, Jesus said “Go and sin no more.” He nor do I believe we ever read anyone saying, Jesus died and forgave all sin so just accpt Him and live as you will. Repentence is always one of the steps.

I twice asked you who one was to repent to, my third reply to you was because you at last adnitted one had to repent to God, rather than some vague ’ repentance ’ to thin air.

What am I missing here? Do you need to repent of your sins? Yes. You need to turn away and sin no more. Willfully, of course. To whom? The only God. When? Now is good. If we fall? Get back up and keep trying. What are you actually asking if this is not answering your question?
