What really happens when we die?

I’ve been thinking a lot about what happens after death…not just in a philosophical way, but personally.

Science can track brain activity, heartbeat, decay. But it can’t account for the soul, or consciousness after death. Still, I think of verses like “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8) or Jesus saying “Today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43).

I want to believe that something waits for us on the other side. That death isn’t just lights out. But I also don’t want to cling to comforting ideas just because they feel better.

How do you make sense of this?

Is it possible to trust Scripture while still being honest about what science can’t answer?

What’s helped you believe in what comes after death?
