Why did God create a material existance to then, suddenly destroy it?

1 Thessalonians 5:23

**23 **And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ…/KJV

I wont argue with you but I only suggest that you keep reading and studying. As you can see in the scripture all three aspects of us are spoken of there. Spirit, soul, and body. God bless you.

Brother, Jesus walk through a wall in the upper room to present Himself to Thomas (doubting Thomas). On the road to emmaeus Jesus vanished.

I said nothing about Him walking through a door. Yet I know that when He knock on the door of my heart, and unlike the cottage owner who didn’t have room for Jesus, I let Him in and that night I received healing, and power and salvation.

Jesus desciples saw Him ascending into heaven. Its in there. You approach me with accusations, yet you do not point to the scriptures, and when you accuse others by saying “MANY THINK”, as if their thinking against your not knowing, when you say “guess we will have to wait and see to be sure”. Jesus gave us HIS assurance, and the bible makes it clear because it comes to us as a promise. “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for”. You have chosen to guess, I have chosen to beleive.

Did you not say that He had a Spirit Body? If it was not you, then I apologize. I do debate a few different people who make this claim. As for scripture to back up the fact that He was raised in the flesh?

Luke 24:39

This is perhaps the most direct evidence. Jesus invites the disciples to touch him to prove he is not a ghost:

“See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.”

Jesus specifically addresses the skepticism of Thomas by offering physical proof of his wounds:

"Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” John 20:27

The accounts of Jesus eating physical food after the resurrection serve to demonstrate a functioning physical body:

" Jesus said to them, ‘Come and have breakfast.’ Now none of the disciples dared ask him, ‘Who are you?’ They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead. When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?’ He said to him, ‘Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.’ He said to him, 'Feed my lambs." John 21:12–15

Peter emphasizes that the witnesses did more than just see Jesus; they shared a meal with him:

“And we are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree, but God raised him on the third day and made him to appear, not to all the people but to us who had been chosen by God as witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.” Acts 10:39-41**

In the Greek cultural context of the first century, many held “dualist” views where the spirit was good, and the body was “bad” or a prison. By emphasizing the flesh and bones (Luke 24) and the act of eating (John 21), the Gospel writers were making a counter-cultural point: the resurrection was a physical victory over death, not just a spiritual escape from it.

Many times I’ve been treated poorly but attributed it to spiritual attacks and after I realized that we are and will be attacked as the spirits decern we are children of God. This brought me to be thankful on the spiritual level that Iam not sitting at the table of laughter and excluded from the worldly. I’ve learned there’s a reason when I’m driving trapped behind some slow poke and I stop my condemning mind and be thankful and relax. God has his reasons. I also include in my prayers thankfulness for his unseen hand through my days and life and repent for showing my Brocken heart instead of faithful joy that He is with me and I love him. Been walking around in a black cloud for so long but his worker’s hands, and minds are here with the healing balm of his words and heart sharing and caring for the downtrodden including me and I’ve received strength and poignant healing through each person who shared insight, understanding, and kind wisdom. I’m so thankful for this website bringing the family of God together across vast distances and the generousity of wise and gentle kindness is soothing balm. I hope you are blessed in the same way and more my fren.

Sounds to me like you can’t handle truth, so you tend to change the context, create your own meaning, your own narrative and pat yourself on the back for approving how good you sound to yourself…good luck with that!

Incorrect, my Brother.

"On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”

Nowhere does it say He walked through the wall.

"Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

Then He proved He was flesh and bone.

“Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.’ Thomas answered him, 'My Lord and my God!” John20:19-21,26-28

Again, no Door or wall. Jesus simply appeared. As for Him disappearing on the road to Damascus, He did not do that either.

"And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” Acts 1:9-11

They saw Him leave and where He headed. We are told we will see Him return the same way. Just a little clarification.

You quote scripture and then suggest I keep reading, as if you see something I don’t, yet you fail to say what you’re seeing that I don’t already know. You seem confused, why don’t you just come out with what ever it is that’s bothering you. By the way, if you do qoute scripture to me, explain yourself through it, don’t just hit and run.

Sorry about that. I posted that sceiprure to show you that it speaks very plainly that we do have a spirt, a soul and a body, which you said that we don’t. I suppose that the question now becomes, so do you believe what is written in the word of God? It’s very plain and I am in no way confused.

It sounds to me like scripture is being fulfilled as we all speak. There are what? About 6 Billion people on earth and you guys both seem perturbed that the other does not agree with you? That is to be expected!

Sometimes it does feel like the world rejects us and many will be scoffers and mockers, and that is exactly what Jesus said would happen to you once you join His Kingdom! Or it could be that one is further along on his walk of the yellow brick road so might not be ready for certain truths yet, being unable to bear it yet??

@Edward429451

I am not in-the-least-bit “perturbed”, I have no problem with anyone not agreeing with me. I am not the standard, and my views are not perfected. I am also a learner, growing by grace. I was only trying to help, but I must have not communicated well.

That must be my problem too, lol. I made a joke to a man yesterday and they deleted it. I suppose I offended someone who didn’t get it?

You’re miss quoting me. I Never said we didn’t have. First and foremost, on the 6th day, when God formed us from the dust of the earth, He breathed into our nostrils, the “Breadth of LIFE”. He didn’t breath a soul into us, HE BREATHED “LIFE” into us, thus we “BECAME” not Got, but “BECAME” a living being/Soul, depending on your translation, because it was “LIFE” He breathed into us. Secondly, we didn’t get a Body, a Soul, a Spirit and then the HOLY SPIRIT. We are not a four part being. You are not a careful reader. You jump to conclusions that aren’t there. Many, like yourself, are confused as to the functions of each. When Paul refers to the individual, does he say you to his body, his soul, his spirit or his holy spirit. If all of them are one, then why refer to them as parts? What say you? I’ll bet you’re still searching all that out. Oh I know, you’ll quote someone who wrote about the conscious part of us, and the emotional part of us, and the this and that part of us, but Paul the Apostle doesn’t go into that does he?

So let me ask you sir, where does your Soul and where does your Spirit go after judgment. In other words, if God doesn’t find you fit for His kingdom, does your Soul go to one place and your spirit to another…HUMMM? After death will you be a Soul or a Spirit? If you say a Spirit, well then why does your Soul need saving? Can you answere that? Let me here it.

But before you answer, re-read my Post carefully and this time, do the math.

I know you did not direct this to me, but perhaps this will help. Scripture often speaks of the soul (the seat of our personality, mind, and emotions) and the spirit (the breath of life or the capacity to connect with God) as intertwined elements of our inner being. At the final judgment, they do not split up and head to different destinations; rather, the entire conscious self, aka the soul, spirit, and eventually a resurrected physical body, reunites to face its eternal destination.

According to the New Testament, there are two distinct eternal realities after judgment, entirely dependent on a person’s relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

First, the righteous. This is where the new Heavens and the new Earth come in. For those who have put their faith in Christ, the ultimate destination after judgment is not a disembodied existence floating on a cloud. The Bible points to a physical, glorious restoration of the universe.

The resurrection body, or new body, is created. Just as Christ was physically raised from the dead, believers will receive a perfected, immortal body. Your soul and spirit will animate a body that is no longer subject to sickness, pain, or death.

"Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 1 Corinthians 15:51-54

Revelation 21 describes a “New Heaven and a New Earth” where God establishes His dwelling place directly among humanity. It is a state of perfect fellowship, joy, and creative purpose.

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4

Then you have the unrighteous. Or the Lake of Fire (Gehenna). For those who have rejected God and chosen to remain separated from Him, the judgment leads to a place the Bible describes in sobering terms. Often referred to as Hell or the “Lake of Fire,” this destination represents the total, permanent absence of God’s presence, light, and goodness.

Then you have the second death. Revelations calls this final judgment the “second death.” It is a place of finality where sin, death, and those who chose separation from God are cast.

“Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:14-15

There is a difference between the before and after judgment. It is worth noting that a common timeline distinction is made in theology regarding where the soul and spirit go. Immediately after death, but before judgment. The physical body goes to the grave. The soul/spirit of a believer goes immediately into the conscious presence of the Lord.

“Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8.

The soul/spirit of the unbeliever goes to a place of conscious separation (often called Hades or Sheol), awaiting the final resurrection.

After the final judgment, this temporary intermediate state ends. Everyone is resurrected bodily, judged, and enters their permanent, eternal state. Either the New Earth or the Lake of Fire. Ultimately, the biblical narrative shows that the soul and spirit remain unified in identity, moving together into an eternity of either a perfect, restored relationship with the Creator or absolute separation from Him.

Thank you for your honesty. I’m going to offer you my method of study, because it is not how most people study. In your honesty you have shown your desire to know more about God than about yourself. My simple method requires that God answers me, not answers “TO” me, but answers me. I don’t want answers from books, I already own the greatest book ever written inspired by the Holy Spirit. Now, I ask the Lord simple questions. I asked about a family situation that needed intervention as Christians. Devout Christians. They gave birth to a Downs Syndrom child. At first I asked for healing because that’s what the Father was praying for. He didn’t feel qualified to be a Father to a child that needed a wisdom that he felt He didn’t have. When I got the answer, from Gods word, not books, I called to meet with them. We read together, and I told him to read it out loud and receive it as food and let it work until he got it. “Yet while we were in sin, God saved us”, “All have sinned and fall short of the kingdom”. I told him to read it until it quenched his thirst, and don’t call me to explain it. He called me approx one week, 7 days later. The Lord showed him that all of Gods children, in and of themselves, were incapable of entering His kingdom. The reason is because we were all handicapped and need a Father who would walk with us and love us inspite of our condition and simply love us, and inspite of ourselves become like us in order that we might “HOPE” in Him, and by His example believe that we can overcome this world because through Him we would have an identity that the world can not understand. A simple question, and wait for the answer. That is how I have always studied the Bible. The answers I get are not opinionated by myrids of liturature and books because no one knows the answer better than your Lord and Savior.

Be blessed

Firstly, the earth is the only Soulical existence of our body. There is no other Soulical destination. In the O.T. our souls, or beings, ended up in shoel after death, and here to God could communicate with us, and even from the Grave we could appeal to God. “…I hear your brothers blood crying out to me from the grave”. Samuel said; “who is this that awaikens me (from sheol) from my slumber”. Jesus speaks to the “souls” when He opens their graves. This material existence was created to host “Living Beings” or souls, created by God, in the image of God.

The next pane of existence is the Spiritual. “I commend my SPIRIT unto thee” though He was speaking from the cross as a living being, a soul, He considered His spirit a move to a different plane with a different body. When Jesus set the captives free, they were freed spiritually, meaning that the flesh and blood remained to become dust on the earth, but the “LIFE” God breadthed into them now is alive spiritually, not the body, because that life will require a new spiritual body that can no loger experience death. Think of it as a sim card in your phone. If the phone dies, its body becomes dead, but that which was life to that body, can now be transfered to a new body, if you will.

Firstly, Scripture does not teach that the earth is the only “soulical” existence of man. In the Hebrew Bible, the word for soul is נֶפֶשׁ (nephesh), a feminine noun meaning “living being,” “life,” “person,” or “creature,” depending on context. It does not merely mean an immaterial ghost-like entity. In Genesis 2:7, man did not receive a soul; rather, man became a living soul: לְנֶפֶשׁ חַיָּה (le-nephesh chayyah, “a living being”).

Gen 2:7 And Hashem Elohim formed the adam of the aphar min haadamah, and breathed into his nostrils the nishmat chayyim; and the adam became a nefesh chayyah.

As for Sheol, שְׁאוֹל (Sheol) in the Old Testament refers to the realm of the dead or the grave, not necessarily conscious torment. However, your examples need correction, right? God says to Cain in Genesis 4:10, “The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground,” not “from the grave.” The noun there is אֲדָמָה (adamah, “ground/earth”), not Sheol.

Regarding Samuel, in 1 Samuel 28:15 Samuel says, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” The Hebrew verb is רָגַז (ragaz), meaning “to disturb,” “agitate,” or “trouble.” The text does not explicitly say “from Sheol” in Samuel’s statement, though the narrative context implies the realm of the dead.

In the New Testament, the Greek word for soul is ψυχή (psychē), while the word for spirit is πνεῦμα (pneuma). These are related but not identical terms. ψυχή commonly refers to life, self, or the living person, whereas πνεῦμα often refers to spirit, breath, or immaterial life. When Jesus says in Luke 23:46, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit,” the Greek is τὸ πνεῦμά μου (to pneuma mou), not ψυχή.

Also, when speaking of resurrection, Jesus does not merely speak to “souls.” In John 5:28–29, He says:

“All who are in the tombs will hear His voice and come out.”

The emphasis is bodily resurrection. Likewise, Paul distinguishes between the present body and the resurrection body in 1 Corinthians 15. The Greek contrasts:

σῶμα ψυχικόν (sōma psychikon) - a natural/soulical body
σῶμα πνευματικόν (sōma pneumatikon) - a spiritual body

Importantly, “spiritual body” does not mean non-physical. πνευματικόν (pneumatikon) is an adjective describing a body animated and perfected by the Spirit.

Your analogy of a SIM card transferring into another body goes beyond what Scripture explicitly teaches. Biblically, the resurrection is not the abandonment of the body, but the redemption and transformation of it. Romans 8:23 speaks of “the redemption of our body,” not merely the transfer of consciousness into another vessel.

You agree?

Johan, the life that GOD breathed into His own body images, created after himself, man is not to be looked at as though God created other beings like us. We were always ment to be spiritual through the tree of life.

I was going to respond; however, @Johann pretty much covered it all. Let me just add this. We have both shown you where the Word proves that Jesus was bodily raised from the dead. He even went to some lengths to prove it. We have already shown you, and Johann did an excellent job here, how God is not restricted to merely supplying a Spirit body to replace the flesh. But both become new. Remember this fact. We will not stay in Heaven. Or Hell, for that matter. We will be there for a time.

Then, with our new bodies, we will either go to the New Earth, to live with God, or we will go to the lake of fire. Either way, we will have a new physical body. As Jesus said.

“Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.” John 5:28-29

The phrase “will hear His voice” signifies the authority and power of Jesus, as it is His voice that will call the dead to rise—not spirits or ghosts, but full bodies. This idea echoes God’s authority in creation, where His word brought life into existence, as seen in Genesis 1.

Additionally, this concept connects to other instances in the Gospels where Jesus’ voice commands power over life and death. For example, in John 11:43, Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead, which involves the physical body, not just the spirit. Also, the 12-year-old girl Mark 5:42. This illustrates Jesus’ divine nature and His role as the giver of life, fulfilling the messianic prophecies of the Old Testament.

It is important to note that the resurrection is not merely a matter of spiritual rebirth; it entails the complete restoration of the physical body, reflecting God’s original plan for humanity.

Peter, what in the world is wrong with you. Where did I say Jesus was not bodily raised. I said Jesus was raised in a “NEW” body. The old body didn’t look like Jesus. It was destroyed by beatings, whippings, torment and suffering. Are you saying He was raised in THAT BODY. I’m the one who SHOULD YOU that in His '“NEW BODY” He walked through the wall of the upper room to show Himsel to doubting Thomas…ARE YOU DENYING THAT PETER. THAT BODY WAS JESUS “NEW” BODY.
