Does the Bible Say WHERE Jesus Will Return?

We know that Scripture tells us to be ready for Jesus’ return at any time, but that it doesn’t specify exactly when his return will be.

But, I hadn’t given much thought before to the question of where Jesus will return. Upon digging into Scripture, I am seeing that the Bible says he will return to the Mount of Olives, near Jerusalem.

So that got me thinking about the significance of this location. Why does it matter where Jesus will return? Why did God reveal this to us but not when he will return?

Yes, Scripture does speak about the where of Christ’s return. Zechariah 14:4 says, “On that day his feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives that lies before Jerusalem on the east.” This is confirmed in Acts 1:11–12, where the angels tell the disciples that Jesus will return “in the same way” as they saw Him go and He ascended from the Mount of Olives.

Why does the place matter? Because God’s Word is not vague or symbolic where it intends to be literal. Jerusalem (and specifically the Mount of Olives) has always held deep significance in God’s redemptive plan. Jesus wept over Jerusalem, taught in its temple, and prayed in Gethsemane nearby. His return to this spot reminds us that God fulfills every promise with precision.
